One night when I was in New Zealand instead of going out with the guys, I layed in my hostel bed, drank a tart Riesling, ate dried apricots and watched E.T. I totally knew how ‘ol E.T. felt when he’d get all melancholy and be like “Home…. home…. home….” I think that was the most down that I felt on my whole trip.

While I will always want to travel, and always feel a compulsion to see everywhere, I am extremely content to be home right now and don’t know when I’ll start jonesing for a travel fix again.

Here are a few more reasons to love Portland and the rest of Oregon.

For years I worked at a computer under flourescent lights, crunching numbers.  This is my “office” now.

It takes just under 1.5 hours to get from my house to this beach.  One goal for me this summer is to get out surfing enough that I kind of know what I’m doing.  Last weekend I was able to go Saturday and Sunday, and for the first time I (briefly) stood up!

They should rename this place “National Bunny Refuge”
